This is a collection of some of the art I did for A Level Art. I pushed myself by experimenting with many different mediums and techniques, such as ink paintings, clay, lino printing and even stenciling. I feel that this experimentation helped me grow as an artist, and helped my gain skills and knowledge that can be applied to all forms of art, regardless of medium.
The first piece is inspired by Frankenstein . I created ‘Victor Frakenstein’s journal’, as he was trying to create life. It is torn up because he ‘destroys it with regret’ after he creates a ‘monster’. I thought that this would be an interesting, new way to convey the gothic tale.
The piece after it is a reimagining of ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’. Where, instead of the portrait aging like in the novel, as you lift the layers of the face you see what ‘lies underneath’ – symbolising the corruption and decay deep within. This piece was referenced from a photoshoot I did, and I often do photoshoots for my art pieces, for inspiration and direct references. I find planning and making my own references very lucrative. (Hence why there are also many detailed pages of studies showcased here too.)
My literary inspirations here showcase how I find inspiration from all forms af art, as I believe that consuming different forms of art is paramount for an artist. It catalyses imagination and innovation.
The dragon piece is a silk painting depicting the Azure Dragon from Chinese mythology, and the clay tree is the life tree from Norse mythology , Yggdrasil.
Although these aren’t digital, I find these pieces speak on my character – they show my tendency to experiment, and also my inclination to create interesting and diverse art. Something extremely important in an ever changing field, like a digital one.
